how is videopress any different then other hosted (free even) services? are the videos stored on your own server? if so, why are we paying a yearly fee (subscription fee at all)? if they are being converted and hosted by videopress somewhere else then isnt that the same as youtube or vimeo? (minus the communities already on the other services that will only act to increase viewers)

either it wasn't explained right or this doesnt seem like the best option for either self hosted or non-self hosted videos.

i just re-read it again to make sure i didnt miss anything, and it appears we are paying for hosting of the files right, and can pay more for 'extra storage' so this isnt anymore self hosted then vimeo pro would be...

again i just feel this isnt even close to being on the top 5 best options for displaying one's own videos on a wordpress blog.

you should also try vimeo, Revver, and blip.tv... they are free and do extactly what this service does... although for HD content vimeo makes you charge if you want more then 1 HD video a month, but SD is fine.

One of the cheapest ways that I recommend for short videos, is to use YouTube. Just upload your video and then embed it into your blog post. The down side is that your are limited with your video size- 2GB and the video can only be 10 minutes long max.

It looks cool, but I wonder what the advantages are over video hosting services that don't charge. Any thoughts on that?

What format video does this end up playing to the end user? Is it Flash? Just wondering what the plugin requirements are for viewers.

Have you tried hosting/streaming your own videos, hosting them with the rest of your blog? How complicated is that? The more I think about this, the more I think maybe 60 bucks a year isn't too bad a deal.
