New Must Have WordPress SEO Plugin

Thanks to Joost de Valk from yoast.com for this fantastic new WordPress SEO plugin. The perfect all in one SEO solution for your blog-in fact I was able to remove 5 SEO plugins on PimpMyWordPress (All in One SEO Pack, Google XML Sitemap, Robots Meta, Yoast Breadcrumbs and the RSS Footer).

Plugin Features:

  • Post title and meta description meta box to change these on a per post basis.
  • Taxonomy (tag, category & custom taxonomy) title and meta description support.
  • Google search result snippet previews.
  • Focus keyword testing.
  • Meta Robots configuration
  • Improved canonical support, adding canonical to taxonomy archives, single posts and pages and the front page.
  • RSS footer / header configuration.
  • Permalink clean ups, while still allowing for, for instance, Google Custom Search.
  • Breadcrumbs support, with configurable breadcrumbs titles.
  • XML Sitemaps with images option
  • XML News Sitemaps.
  • .htaccess and robots.txt editor.
  • Basic import functionality for HeadSpace2 and All in One SEO.

Also some add-on modules should be out soon in function of your blog needs:

  • News SEO (free module to create XML News Sitemaps)
  • Video SEO (some of the features: Automatic XML Video Sitemap generation, MediaRSS enhancements to your RSS feed, Snippet previews with the actual video still in them, Facebook share tags on your video pages, support for many major video platforms, including Vimeo, Blip, DailyMotion and others)
  • Local SEO (some of the features: KML File Generation, Geo Sitemap Generation,  Microformatted address output, Showing Google maps)

I’m using SEO Ultimate but I would love to see a head-to-head match up between these two plugins. I have a few other plugins from Yoast and I’m happy with them all.

I’m going round and round in circles trying to find a decent search plugin for wordpress. The website I’ve created is using the constructor theme (useful, but not overly friendly) and search was horrible on WP 3.0

In the end I had to plumb for Google Custom Search to get the right “feeling”.

I really love all the features of this plugin but I’m having problem with the indexation section.
I marked the following pages to prevent index for them: search results, login and register pages, all admin pages, date-based archives and tag archives.

However, when I looked at the source of those pages, I couldn’t find any meta robots tag except in the login/register page. I also looked in the virtual robots.txt file in mydomain.com/robots.txt but there was no indication for these pages either.
    Got any suggestions?
